About Me
Thank you for visiting. My name is Kelley and I am an illustrator and surface pattern designer living in a small rural community in Northland, New Zealand.
I live in a Villa that is 115 years old on one acre, with my husband, three cats, and a dog. We moved here nearly 6 years ago from Australia, looking for a lifestyle change and a project. I was a senior technical writer, but moving to New Zealand has allowed me to change direction and pursue illustration as a creative career. To follow the ups and downs of our move and the behind the scenes look at my creative process, be sure to sign up for my newsletter and check out my blog.
Some facts about me:
- My favourite medium to draw with is a 2B pencil. I love the texture of pencil, and I like to see the pencil lines underneath the colour layers. I try not to erase any of my lines, even ones that are a mistake.
- I have one coffee a day. In most cases, it is a cappuccino made by me using my barista express coffee machine. Besides my art supplies, it is the best thing I have ever bought.
- I did not draw for 20 years.
- I lean towards a vintage palette and earthy tone,s but I am trying to go out of my comfort zone and use brighter colours.
- I buy children’s books for the illustrations and my dream is to one day illustrate a children’s book of my own, or three :-)
- I am a science fiction fan, and love all things Marvel, Harry Potter and Dr Who and could also be called a Janeite – pride and prejudice in space anyone???
- I love the arts and crafts period and anything William Morris.
